I was just wondering if all of us here on this community would be willing to to measure their flow each month for a couple of months.
In reference to this post: http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/1999351.html#cutid1

I thought it would be interesting if we could state which cup we're using (no changing cups during this experiment so it's consistent), how much blood fills the cup when we go to empty it, and how much blood we accumulate over the course of you period.
Measure this versus how much you bled/how many pads/tampons you used before you got your cup.
Also give a little bit of backup info, for instance, I'm 8 weeks postpartum so I don't think I'll be getting my period for a while. I've had 3 children and I'm 27 and I have a mid-low cervix. (The canal is the length of my middle finger, my cervix is right at the end.)

Anyone interested in compiling some data? It might help people new to the cup experience have a better time finding a cup that works for them.
Also, if you have better ideas for compiling the data, let me know!

So, I got my OrangeCup last week and immediately started wearing it. I usually have spotting for a few days before my period kicks in to gear, so I used the small as practice runs and to catch the spotting.

I did ok. Getting it in was a little tricky. And I certainly am not a pro yet, but I got it in pretty good. Was even able to get it out. Due to reading here, I was terrified of pulling on it without breaking the suction, but I don't think I've had that problem yet.

I did practice runs of emptying it at work and did ok there. So that was a plus.

Overall, I'm pretty proud of myself. I look forward to when it is as easy/simple/old hat as tampons were. But for now, I'm doing well.

Today was the first day of actual bleeding. It is happening right now as a matter of fact. At this very moment. I am in immense pain. Which is the only disappointment I'm having in regards to cups: I had finally broken down and bought one because my cramps were so bad last month I had considered a trip to the ER for a shot. And I heard so many of you say it helped your cramps. I decided I'd do whatever it took to make my cramps stop. Sadly, I don't seem to be one of the lucky ones who gets cramp-relief if they wear a cup.

I'm not going to give up on using them. I still like the idea and plus, I spent $41 to get them, so I don't want that money to go to waste. But it is a let down at the moment to be in excruciating pain just like always. *sigh*

The only thing interesting about my first time use: The first night I put the small in, I had had just a tiny, tiny bit of brown spotting. I put the cup in and felt kind bloated. After about an hour, I decided to take it out and try to reinsert. When I took it out, there was some watery blood in the cup and a glob of blood that came out after the cup came out. I thought perhaps I had jump-started my period with the suction from the cup. But I didn't bleed anymore until today. I wonder what that was all about. I'm not a virgin, so I don't think it was my hymen breaking. That was the only event of note in my start to using cups.

Thanks for listening. Thanks all of you for the comm. It definitely made this a better experience. Cuz let me tell ya, the instructions that come with a Ladycup are rather lame-o.

Hi all.

I've been a happy user of a large Diva and large Lady Cup for nine months. Sure, I had crazy heavy flow issues early on, but that has been corrected and things are much more manageable.

Now I'm having a new problem. I'm losing suction every time I go to the bathroom. After I put my cup in, I can lie down, sit down, get up, walk around - all with no leaks - so I know my seal is good then. But the moment I sit on the toilet to pee, the suction breaks, I feel bubbles and blood dribbles out. There's blood in the cup, but I can't quite tell if it's too full because it's uncomfortable for me to take it out without tilting it or folding it in some way. There's not a huge amount of blood in the toilet.

Before I had surgery, the fibroid I had made by uterus wonky so I never could find my cervix during my period. My gyn had trouble finding it during my last Pap smear earlier this year. Today I found it. It's not super low or anything, but it's definitely not high either. Still, both cups seem a little long for me this month.

Suggestions anyone?

Has anyone else ever heard of this: Mansfield-Voda-Jorgensen Menstrual Bleeding Scale?

I was clicking around on the Lunette.com website and under FAQ's is the question: How do I know if I have heavy or light periods?

the Answer: )

I never knew this info existed and i'm shocked i fall under the 'very heavy bleeding' category...i thought i would be under 'heavy bleeding' since i've read of others around here that lose lots more than me! Wow.

Q101
What was your first cup? What troubles did you have with it that made you want to change cups? What cup do you have now that you love?

I have 3 children, and I always assumed I had a long vagina, so I bought myself a Diva Cup 2. After reading LOTS of info from this community, watching a few of Melissa's videos and mapping out my vag, I've come to realize that my vagina is not nearly as long as I thought it was.
I bought my sister a Diva 1 for christmas because I assume we have similar vaginas(even though she's never had kids) and when I was comparing the large and the small, it didn't look like there was THAT much of a difference.
In any case, I'm looking to buy a new cup. I'm just curious about those who initially bought a cup and realized it wasn't for them, and then switched.

Unicorn Taxidermy

"His horn sparkles with the shimmer of little rainbows from the inside out! His mane and tail blow softly in the breeze! He is attached to a base so that he will stand securely and not tip over. He was made from a baby lamb that died of natural causes shortly after birth. I crafted the piece into the likeness of a unicorn."

I have a beater old leather jacket that I found at a thrift shop that I want to try to revive and repair. However, I think it needs a good cleaning first before I look at getting the lining and zipper replaced. There's no paint or excess decoration on it, but it's old, so I don't want the cleaning process to kill it.

Any good places in the Seattle area that do that? Bonus points if it's somewhere in Cap Hill, downtown, or anywhere south of I-90. Thanks!

I’ve been looking all over the internet for good lubricants to use with cup insertion (both for myself, and to recommend for others). I had all these demands about it, lol. Mostly for personal purposes, as I also wanted to be able to use it for intimacy.

So basically, I was trying to find something that was water based. I don’t like oil-based, because that’s not very biocompatible with the vagina. I also wanted it to be glycerin-free and paraben free, because as I’ve experienced, and heard from others in this forum-- those things cause yeast infections and irritation for lots of women.

Details on what I found here )

I have been watching this community for a long time. I've wanted to get a cup, but I've been troubled by the idea -- reading all your posts has really helped me get used to the idea. Thank you.

So I took the plunge and bought a DivaCup. I got it Saturday and boiled it as per the instructions. I had thought about doing a dry run with it, but didn't because I was worried that if it hurt or was difficult that I would never try it for real. My cycle started last night, so after refreshing my memory with all the different folds, I tried it. I used a C-fold, held my breath and -- it went right in and popped open. I couldn't feel it inside me at all. I tried a couple of kegels and it felt vaguely squishy, but I had no sense of something actually being there. It was no problem at all. I wore it all night, with no leaks or anything, removed it this morning, again with no problem, emptied it, rinsed it and reinserted it. I had to twist it a bit to open it this morning, it didn't pop open the way it did last night, but even that was easy.

I'm astonished at how easy it is. I wasn't planning on wearing it to work today, but if I don't get any leaks before I head out, I probably will. It's very comfortable and clean, without the weird sticky, dry feeling I get from tampons.

I do feel some pressure against the front wall of my vagina, and I'm worried about getting a UTI (I get them frequently). I also feel a more frequent urge to pee. I'm being careful to wash my hands and to urinate after inserting it, and I'm taking cranberry supplements (I take them by the fistful every time I have sex, and they are very helpful in preventing my UTIs). I'm hoping that small problem will resolve itself as I get used to it.

I do have a question: Do you think this more frequent urge to pee will go away? It's not uncomfortable, but it's bothersome. It's exactly like when I have a UTI and constantly feel like I need to use the bathroom, only it's not painful the way a UTI is.

If you're the kind of Pagliacci customer that has their number on speed-dial, now* is a really, really good time to place an order.

They're giving their best** customers a pretty amazing deal. We ordered a small pie and a small salad last night, and paid the low low price of free. It was awesome, and you should consider placing an order to see if maybe you, too, are a lucky duck. (But y'know... Don't assume it'll be free. Just hope.)

*I don't know how long "now" will last.
**I don't know what determines "best" vs. the rest

Which is why this twee postcard of a possessed, wall-eyed kitten can be yours for $1.

The really weird and interesting thing about it is that it scares me more and more every time I look at it. Also, WTF is going on with that purple ribbon in the lower right-hand corner? It's just sort of... there.

Hello everyone!

I was looking for some tips about how to deal with a cup and having a IUD as I plan on getting one soon. I don't want to give up my cup! This is my first cycle using the cup and I freaking LOVE it! Is there anything I can do now to practice and prepare for having an IUD? What do I need to look out for? Any special tips and advice to achieve harmony between my cup and soon to be IUD? Anything would be helpful. Thank you all so much in advance!

I know this is a long shot, but...

There is a girl named Lauren who is a 20-something that was at Golden Gardens tonight around 4:30 pm. She blew a tire in her bike and I gave her a ride to Ballard on my way out of the park. She happened to leave her umbrella and one glove in my car, but I didn't notice until about an hour later after I ran some errands.

I would like to give her these things back, if possible...but I have no way to reach her. If this situation sounds familiar to anyone and your friend hitchhiked out of Golden Gardens today, can you tell her that I have her stuff? You can either email me (in userinfo) or she can contact me at my place of work, as she will likely remember where I work.

Thanks all! Please resume your regular programming.

Hey all,

Just wanted to write an update about the stem tearage situation, well, one of them. I emailed Frank a picture of the broken stemmed cup and he sent a replacement out Thursday. I received a package from Meluna today...from Germany to California in 3 business days...wow! He enclosed a replacement green ring stem and also a bonus red ball stem. I'm on my period now so I boiled the cups for a minute and popped the red one. I plan on giving the green one to a friend, since I have a green thats now basic since the other stem tore. Don't rule meluna out completely. I still have faith in them....apparently I just have a monster vagina...at 5'3" and 100 pounds you would never expect that, but hey!
